Bamboo jersey is beautifully soft and drapes well, making it a great flexible fabric for sewing basic wardrobe items such as t-shirts, tank tops, turtlenecks, flowy tops, and even underwear. The fabric has a subtle sheen and is extremely pleasant against the skin.
In terms of sustainability, bamboo is a great choice for a raw material - it grows rapidly and abundantly without the need for fertilizers. Thanks to its natural antibacterial properties, pesticides are not necessary when cultivating bamboo. Bamboo has a complex root system, it regenerates on its own, and there's no need for replanting after harvesting. Bamboo fiber is more resistant to bacterial growth (up to 60% more so compared to cotton).
The production of bamboo fiber is similar to that of viscose from other natural materials - it involves dissolving the bamboo in an alkaline solution and extruding it through a nozzle.
The fabric may have a maximum residual shrinkage of 4%. It's best to wash it at lower temperatures, and avoid using a dryer.
